On the day Trump came into office again, he signed an executive order implementing the new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The Department is headed by Elon Musk, the richest person in the world. It ensures that taxpayer dollars are utilized more effectively and responsibly.
The purpose of DOGE is to scale back the Federal Government by eliminating wasteful government spending. So far, the largest action taken by DOGE has been the mass firing of government employees. This bold approach has sparked some controversy across the nation. As of March 10, 2025, more than 62,000 government employees have been laid off. Musk has said he wants to end the "tyranny of the bureaucracy" emphasizing the need to remove layers of red tape that often complicate and delay governmental processes. So far, he has done a lot to cut back on the Government.
One group of government employees in particular has been hit hard by the cuts. The National Park Rangers. More than 1000 Park Rangers were let off by DOGE. Before the cuts, there were approximately 20,000 Park Rangers across the country.
Another big cut is in the Social Security Program, DOGE has allegedly found millions of fraudulent accounts that receive money from Social Security. This article explains all the cuts that DOGE has made so far. The official DOGE website also tracks its cuts.
As the Department of Government Efficiency continues its mission to streamline federal operations, Americans remain divided on its methods and outcomes. Supporters praise DOGE's efforts to reduce government spending and bureaucracy, pointing to potential long-term benefits for taxpayers. Critics worry about the immediate impact on government services and displaced workers, questioning whether such rapid changes might have unintended consequences. Good or Bad, DOGE has had a huge impact on the Nation. Time will tell whether the impacts turn out to be good or bad.
